Ethiopia: ILO trains TVET instructors to embed core skills in curricula

How do core skills get from a global framework into an Ethiopian classroom? Through the instructors. From 23 to 26 June, the ILO's Global Skills Programme brought roughly 35 TVET trainers together in Hawassa to work on exactly that translation.

The sessions covered the ILO core skills global framework alongside workplace communication, teamwork and conflict management, emotional intelligence, analytical and critical thinking, basic digital skills, green jobs and self-leadership — with each participant leaving with an action plan for embedding these competencies into their institution's curricula and assessment systems.

The programme, funded by Norway through Norad, reflects a broader shift in development cooperation: employability gaps are increasingly addressed at the level of teaching practice, not only curriculum documents.
