Competency-Based Training and AssessmentCBT&A

An approach to TVET in which training and assessment are organised around the demonstrated ability to perform defined occupational competencies to an explicit standard.

Competency-Based Training and Assessment (CBT&A) shifts the focus from time served and inputs to demonstrated competence: learners progress by proving they can perform tasks to a published occupational standard. Curricula are modularised around units of competency, and assessment gathers evidence of actual performance rather than testing knowledge in isolation.

CBT&A underpins much of modern TVET reform because it makes qualifications transparent, portable and labour-market relevant. It is closely linked to occupational standards, qualifications frameworks and recognition of prior learning, and is a recurring methodology across indeson's curriculum and assessment engagements.
